The Downeaster is excited to continue to promote and provide transportation to kid-friendly destinations all year round. With the expansion of Amtrak’s NEW and improved Children’s Discount, taking the kids on the adventure they have been dreaming about is now more affordable and convenient for all families. Travel Northbound with Malisa & Family
For our first day trip with the kids, we took the Amtrak Downeaster to Portland, Maine to visit the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine. I was a little concerned on how our first born will be on our way there, but she was very chill. She enjoyed the space and comfort of the four seaters and took her time taking in the views. She exerted so much energy at the Museum, so on our way back, she slept the whole way through.
The trip was very convenient. We drove to North Station where the Amtrak Downeaster is located and parked in the garage. We live in Boston, so it took us less than 15 minutes to get there. With two kids, the morning was a bit rushed, so we had breakfast in the cafe’ on the train. The train had QR codes everywhere, so we were able to order what we wanted right at our seats.
Our eldest thoroughly enjoyed the museum. There was an exhibit catered just for children under 2 years of age and she loved. it! She spent most of her time there. I really appreciated Amtrak’s service! They were very helpful and accommodating. We traveled with a two-seat stroller. There was no hesitation from the conductors to assist us by carrying the stroller up and down the steps and assist us with our seats.
