Train Service Modifications due to Winter Storm Fern

As we have been closely monitoring the potential impacts of Winter Storm Fern and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of passengers and crew, we have had to make the following service changes to the Amtrak Downeaster:

Sunday, January 25:

  • Trains 698 and 699 have been CANCELLED

Monday, January 26:

  • Trains 680, 681, 682, 683, 685 and 688 – CANCELLED
  • Train 684, 686, 687 and 1689  – WILL OPERATE

The safety of our customers and our team members remains our highest priority. We are taking proactive steps to limit exposure to hazardous conditions for our customers, employees and rail equipment.

Please notes that station buildings may be closed and/or not be staffed due to the weather but train platforms will remain accessible and allow for boarding of trains. Please plan accordingly.

Here is how to stay up-to-date:

  • Self-modify your reservation via the Amtrak app or Amtrak.com (or call 800-USA-RAIL) if your trip has been impacted and change and cancelation fees will be waived.
  • Visit Amtrak.com or download the Amtrak app for the latest information on train status
  • Subscribe to delay alerts for any train via email or text message at Amtrak.com/DelayAlerts
  • Follow @AmtrakNECAlerts and @AmtrakAlerts on X for real-time service information on Amtrak trains in the NEC and across the country

Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated as we navigate these weather challenges together.
